No matter how fluent language you speak, if you want to study in an English-speaking country, you will no doubt need to pass the language test to get admission and to prove your skills and strong knowledge of the language.
You may have heard of IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge English exams and TOEIC--or a number of proficiency tests and other competencies you enjoy--but which one do you need? What is the difference between them? What about the costs? Or the way you test it?
We have therefore decided to prepare for you today a comprehensive dossier on the most popular admission exams in schools and universities: IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge and TOEIC.

First, we would like to note the two most frequently used tests: IELTS and TOEFL, both of which are available at test sites around the world and accepted by thousands of universities and other organizations.
We recommend that you first verify the website of the institutions or organizations you wish to enroll in and learn about the required and accepted English language tests.
Universities in the United States usually prefer the TOEFL test while schools in Canada, Australia and the UK tend to choose an IELTS test, but most institutions in all countries will accept it as well. However, it is always prudent to make sure that each individual institution's exam plans to enroll.

And watch out! Both the TOEFL and IELTS exams are valid for two years, so make sure you are in a timely fashion.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

The widely accepted IELTS test consists of four parts: listening, reading, writing and speaking, and the duration of the test usually takes about two hours and 45 minutes. This test is the most reliable and prevalent in Australia and Britain to measure the individual's skill and English language.

The test depends on the measurement of the individual's language proficiency (listening-reading-writing-speaking), and the IELTS test is divided into two types:
  • General: Employers request or may need it for travel or immigration purposes.
  • Academic Academic: No doubt you need to study in educational institutions inside the country or abroad.
As for the test method, you must sit down to answer the listening, reading and writing sections of the test one after the other without interruption. A talk test, which will be performed face-to-face with the scanner, may be done on the same day or may take up to a week before or after the other sections. After completing the test performance in the four sections (speaking-listening-reading-writing) you will receive your scores from 1-9, Grade zero indicating that the advanced English language is not proficient, Grade 9 indicates the advanced proficiency of the test and pass it successfully, and the individual may get 6 Degrees This means an average knowledge of the language.

The IELTS test costs about US $200 and you can pay in your local currency so there should be no problems with conversion rates or surcharges.

Test English as a Foreign language (TOEFL)

The TOEFL exam is one of the most important admissions tests, this test is done online and is conducted in one of the 4,000 testing centers worldwide. A hard copy of the test is available in countries where online testing is not possible, however, the majority of test applicants prefer to do it over the Internet.

Like IELTS, the TOEFL is divided into four sections; reading, listening, speaking and writing, it may take a section answering questions related to reading from 60-80 minutes, listening 60-90 minutes, talking 20 minutes, and writing 50 minutes.
After the first two sections, you will have a 10-minute break, the enrollment should lead to the test in one session and can last about half a day.
Unlike IELTS, the talk test section is not complete with a tester, but the recording is used using the microphone, so this may be a better option for you if you feel nervous in front of the examiner.
After performing the test, you will get a score of 30 per department, bringing the total to a maximum of 120 points.
The cost depends on the country you specify to conduct the test due to taxes and fees, but you expect IELTS tests to range from USD 165 to US $250.
If you do not achieve the desired result, you can re-register and restore the test as many times as you want, but not more than once in a 12-day period.
